SEA TURTLE 'S LUCKY DAY

As two researchers of the University of Cagliari were diving in the waters of Masua (West Sardinian coast) to keep record of the sea turtles, they discovered by chance a turtle which was struggling for its life: it had a hook stuck in its throat. Fortunately, it was its lucky day !

The turtle was hoisted into the volunteers' boat and then transferred to the Sea Turtle and Cetaceans Rescue Center of Nora (near Pula), where it was operated and then released to the sea at completed recovery.

Visit the Sea Turtle Rescue Center to learn more about the wonderful work these biologists, environmentalists and experienced divers are doing to save the sea and its inhabitants: www.lagunadinora.it.
Nora is only a 20 min drive away from Chia.

A PARADISE OF INCREDIBLE BEAUTY

Are you up for a pic-nick at the beach? Then why not head to Le Dune di Porto Pino , yet another of my favorite beaches in South Sardinia.

This large and wide stretch of beach is in the municipal area of Teulada, near the little harbor Porto Pino. Behind the beach raise amazing 20 to 30 meters high dunes of very fine, white sand, that give an intense blue color to the crystalline waters of this coast. On your way to the beach you will cross the pond of Is Brebeis (which means the sheep), summer abode of numerous migratory birds, such as the elegant pink flamingos.

On the beach you can rent beach umbrellas, sun-loungers and pedal boats, and will also find a few cafes where you can eat simple food. Le Dune is perfect for families with small children, as well as for scuba diving, snorkeling and, on a windy day, even kite-surfing.

From the village of Sant'Anna Arresi follow the road to Porto Pino and shortly before arriving there, follow the sign to the left for the dirt-track road to Le Dune and drive until you reach the large car park. From this point you have to continue on foot. Take the bridge over a small channel, and continue for about 300 meters along a path to the beach.

The beach Le Dune is located within the military zone of Capo Teulada; for this reason the Ministry of Defence only grants access to the beach during the summer months.
